CONGESTION AT LAGOS PORT
There are two main port terminals in Lagos, Nigeria, and both were privatized this year. Apapa, the larger of the two, is suffering serious problems with congestion resulting in delays of approximately a month. Please note that a minimum of 250 USD will be charged as a port congestion fee and additional costs may apply. The Delmas Shipping Co. has stopped docking at Apapa for at least six months.
The situation at the Tincan terminal is much better, although there are problems, ships are being loaded and unloaded and the operators do not know where to find the containers. We recommend routing shipments via the Tincan terminal to avoid the issues experienced at Apapa.
